Lindsey Buckingham Resources

Lindsey Buckingham (born October 3, 1949 in Palo Alto, California) is a guitarist and singer from the musical group Fleetwood Mac. His partner for a while was Stevie Nicks. Buckingham also has done some independent recording since he first became a member of Fleetwood Mac. Buckingham never took guitar lessons and does not read music. Lindsey began playing guitar at a very young age. Buckingham is known for his unique finger picking style, sometimes called "travis picking" a common technique used in folk music. With extra time on his hands when he was stricken with a case of mono, he mastered his guitar techniques even further. It took a year for Buckingham and Nicks to record seven demos in 1972. After recording the demos made on a 4 track analog recording system, Buckingham and Nicks drove to Los Angeles to get a record deal. Despite beliefs, it is at this time Nicks wrote the song Sorcerer to illustrate her fears of being alone in a big city. In 1973, Polydor records signed Nicks and Buckingham. The album, Buckingham Nicks was released in September of 1973; soon after its release, Polydor records dropped Nicks and Buckingham. Buckingham Nicks was never officially released on CD format due to the fact that it has no record company. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have "split" ownership of the album. The only song that has been released on digital format is "Long Distance Winner" found on Stevie Nick's CD released in 1998.Lindsey Buckingham has released 3 solo albums:'Law and Order'(1981),'Go Insane'(1984), and 'Out of the Cradle' (1992).

While checking out a recording studio in California, Mick Fleetwood heard the song "Frozen Love" from the Buckingham Nicks album. He asked who the guitarist was, and immediately stated that he wanted him to fill a recent vacancy. Lindsey agreed on the condition that Nicks could join too, which is ironic because she is easily the most recognizable member of Fleetwood Mac. After the resounding commercial success of the groups second album, "Rumours," Lindsey was bent on not falling into a pattern. The result was "Tusk," a two album set that Buckingham primarily directed. Though by most standards a hit, the album failed to come anywhere close to what "Rumours" had done, and Buckingham, who also produced the albums, took the brunt of the criticism. Lindsey never fully got over his animosty towards the band for putting a commercial price tag on their art, and it finally came to a head with the release of their 1987 recording, "Tango in the Night." Buckingham had already given up much of the material for his third album, "Out of the Cradle." Just prior to touring for the release of the album, Buckingham left against the others pleas. While assembling material for his yet to be released fourth solo album in the late 90's, Buckingham contacted Fleetwood for assistance on a song. Eventually all of the other members who were in the band during Buckingham's tenure got together and arranged for the reunion tour that was called, "The Dance."Buckingham is currently married and has two children. His brother was an olympic medalist, and Lindsey played for a collegiate water polo team.
