Gale Harold: Biography

Gale M. Harold, III was born on July 10, 1969 in Decatur, Georgia United States. He is a middle child with an older sister and a younger brother. Because he is an incredibly private person, few details pertaining to Gale's upbringing have been made public, aside from his own admission that growing up was a "bizarre Pentecostal" experience. Jack London, David Bowie and J. R. R. Tolkien's Gandalf have often been credited as some of his strongest adolescent influences.

After graduating from Southwest Dekalb High School, Gale attended American University in Washington, D.C. on a soccer scholarship. He began a Liberal Arts degree in romance literature, only to depart after a year and a half, due to irreconcilable differences of opinion between he and his coach. Gale then moved to San Francisco, California, United States to pursue an interest in fine arts at the San Francisco Art Institute. Eventually, he became dissatisfied with that, too, and opted to make other plans.

In 1997, friend Suzy Landau suggested Gale attempt stage acting. He re-located to Los Angeles and began a 3 year period of intensive drama study and exploration. At 28, he was accepted to the Actors Conservatory Program with the classical theater company A Noise Within. In the theatrical debut, Gale appeared as "Bunny" in Me and My Friends.

Currently, Gale Harold can be seen playing the role that skyrocketed him into national notoriety: the smooth-talking sex god Brian Kinney on Showtime's popular gay drama Queer As Folk.
