Best of BBtv - David Byrne "Playing the Building."

Our retrospective of favorite Boing Boing tv editions concludes today in a visit with music legend David Byrne, at the launch of his musical installation Playing the Building. This episode was a blast for cast and crew alike, and we're revisiting it today to remind you that Byrne is about to start a Fall US tour to support his recently-released collaboration with Brian Eno, Everything that Happens will Happen Today. Snip from that project's website: Byrne and Eno began their artistic relationship in the late seventies with 3 Talking Heads albums, followed by their groundbreaking album My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. The album is their first together in 30 years, and is available in deliciously DRM-free digital download. It's beautiful. Photos from the BBtv "Playing the Building" shoot, below -- and in the episode -- by Clayton Cubitt. (Special thanks to Danielle Spencer, and Jason Wishnow). David Byrne and Brian Eno's kick ass new album in a million downloadable and physical formats

David Byrne and Brian Eno's new album "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today" is up this week in a wide variety of formats, ranging from a free, DRM-free stream of the whole disc to a bunch of digital delivery options (320kbps MP3, Flac, or digital+CD) and a gorgeous little "deluxe package" with bonus tracks and a package designed by Stefan Sagmeister. Byrne is literally my favorite recording artist of all time. I own the whole canon, in multiple formats, and a quick perusal of my top-rated MP3s in my music player, Banshee, tells me that he makes up more than a quarter of my favorite music. I have never been disappointed by anything he's done, and I've just bought myself the deluxe set and I'm listening to the stream and absolutely loving it. What a great day this is shaping up to be. Reminder: Comic Book Legal Defense Fund benefit in NYC on Thursday

A quick reminder that there are still some tickets left for Thursday's benefit gig in NYC with DJ Spooky, all proceeds to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund: On August 21, Cory Doctorow, award-winning author and co-editor of the popular blog Boing Boing and experimental writer / artist / musician Paul Miller, a.k.a. D.J. Spooky That Subliminal Kid team up for a multimedia speaking event benefiting the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Following their respective presentations, Doctorow and DJ Spooky will take the stage together for an open forum discussion about their work and the futurepresent each eloquently addresses across different media. Cory Doctorow will read and discuss the issues behind his bestselling young adult novel, Little Brother. Addressing internet and government security, censorship, and civil liberties in a post-9/11 near-future atmosphere, Little Brother tackles timely issues while telling a story that's smart, funny, and jam-packed-with-pop culture nuggets. Doctorow "hopes it'll inspire you to use technology to make yourself more free." Doctorow is the former European Director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a civil liberties group that works to keep cyberspace free. IDW recently published Cory Doctorow's Futuristic Tales of the Here and Now a collection of comics based on his cyberpunkiest Sci-fi short stories. DJ Spooky joins Doctorow to present concepts from Sound Unbound: Sampling Digital Music and Culture, his new book / literary mixtape collecting writing by artists and thinkers including Brian Eno, Jonathan Lethem, Saul Williams, Steve Reich, Moby, Chuck D, and more.
