Report on the Thirteenth Off-Campus Library Services Conference

I recently had the privilege of visiting Salt Lake City, Utah for a library conference. It was the Off-Campus Library Services Conference. I had a great time and really enjoyed visiting Utah. In addition to attending many great sessions, I presented a paper on publishing for librarians. It is in the conference proceedings already and I also hope to get the paper up on the Central Michigan University Digital Repository soon. I also visited some attractions in Salt Lake City such as Temple Square.I enjoyed the conference and hope to go again next time this conference is held. Here are a few PowerPoint slides from some sessions held dealing with library instruction or information literacy:Using Online Tutorials to Reduce Uncertainty in Information Seeking BehaviorVisual Tutorials for Point- of-Need Instruction in Online CoursesHow It?s Done: Examining Distance Education Library Instruction and AssessmentCreation, Management, and Assessment of Library Screencasts: The Regis Libraries Animated Tutorials ProjectInformation Literacy Successes Compared: Online vs. Face to Face

Rooms in Beautiful SW Berkeley Home (berkeley) $750

Live in a beautiful 1895 Victorian with a large backyard and deck! DSL and garbage are included in rent. PGE, EBMUD charges are split amongst the residents. Owner renting rooms in house; full house will be 5 people. We are about 2 1/4 mi. from the UC campus - an easy 15 min. bike ride. We're also near major bus lines and 5 blocks from Ashby BART station. Oak and Douglas Fir floors lots of common space including large kitchen (with dishwasher), living room (with TV/DVD), dining room with large table and chairs, downstairs common room, laundry room, storage space, backyard/garden, hot tub. proximity to Ashby BART and major bus lines & Berkeley Bowl DSL and wireless 3 bathrooms for less waiting time (2 showers, 1 tub/shower) room to lock your bike in the garage First floor room $750: Stained glass lamp and ceiling fan, built-in closet with mirrored door and cupboard, south-facing double-glazed window (but somewhat shaded by front porch). Douglas fir floor. Attic Room 1 - $800: South-facing windows with window storage bench/seat. Closet and extra storage room all your own (room is wired for DSL and has outlets so you can use it as a computer hutch if you'd like - low ceiling). Douglas fir floor. AVAILABLE mid-DEC Attic Room 2 - $850 - West-facing windows with window storage bench/seat. Douglas fir floor. Smaller closet but larger playhouse/storage room with oak floor that includes clothes-hanging bar (room is wired for DSL and has outlets so you can use it as a computer hutch if you'd like - low ceiling) You: Non-smoker who has a combination of progressive & creative sensibilities with good old-fashioned courtesy. Looking for an adult who has no pets. This household recycles, conserves energy, and composts - all very Berkeley stuff you should be into. Ideally I'd like to find people who are a good enough match and interested in setting up a household with a strong house feel and hosting certain house events. (But it's not co-housing or a co-op.) However, if we just end up being people who live our separate lives but are considerate to one another, that's fine. Please tell me about yourself in your reply to this ad. Me: Forty-three-year old female artist & vocalist. While I very much enjoy holding events and parties at this house, I'm not a total party girl. I'm pretty quiet, in fact. Courtesy is extremely important to me as is good and open communication. I've studied Swedish and Danish (and other languages). I spend as much time as I can gardening in our edible landscape. (I welcome other gardeners. I still have room in my raised beds and in select places in the yard. I also welcome people who want to help with my stuff...those who help get a share in the harvest.) My other hobbies are singing, dancing, making art, sewing, cycling, and holding salons. Come see the amenities you can have in a share that you probably can't afford to have if you lived alone! Besides Ashby BART and Berkeley Bowl, we're reasonable walking distance from Crixa Cakes, Nomad Cafe, Thursday Berkeley Farmers Market, Ashby Flea Market, The Ashby Stage, the South Branch of the Berkeley Public Library (and its Tool Library), and the Sunday Brunches at the Thai Temple. There are also two community gardens within walking distance as well as Spiral Gardens.
